Judge Kevin Hellmann was appointed as a County Court Judge by Governor Ron DeSantis in July 2024. He is assigned to the Civil Division at the Caleb Center where he presides over cases involving landlord-tenant issues, personal insurance matters, and small claims disputes.
Before he was appointed to the judiciary, Judge Hellmann served as Director of Training, Professionalism, and Leadership Development at the Miami-Dade Public Defender Office. In 28 years as a public defense lawyer, he tried over 300 criminal cases and focused on developing the trial skills of younger lawyers. The Miami Dade Bar celebrated his efforts to improve the criminal justice system in 2023 when they awarded him the Criminal Justice Award. At night, Judge Hellmann is also an adjunct professor at University of Miami Law School since 2012 and at Florida International University College of Law since 2018.
Judge Hellmann’s unsurpassed trial experience, ongoing commitment to the community, and undying devotion to improving the legal system make him a County Court Judge of enduring value to Miami-Dade. Please help Kevin continue his commitment to the people of Miami.

Kevin Hellmann was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis as a County Court Judge in July 2024. Being a judge is a dream come true for Kevin, who has spent his 30-year legal career dedicated to serving the community. After graduating law school in 1995, Judge Hellmann began his legal career of public service in New York and then moved to Miami in 1996 to continue his dedication to improving the criminal justice system as an Assistant Public Defender.
